Referrals and marketing: Why you need both

I often hear from advisers that they don’t need to invest in marketing because they rely for new business on referrals. For lifestyle advice practices that may well be the case. But if you want your firm to grow, you definitely need both.
In fact, recent research from the US shows that the amount of new business from referrals is declining, with firms reporting more traction from external business development and marketing strategies instead.
